“I don’t want to die in James Franco’s house.” – Jay, This Is The End
This Is The End is basically what it states, the end of the world. Now we play with bible references and of course the devil is now on Earth but it just that, the end of the planet. The goal of course is to not be stuck on Earth and end up in heaven, but how do you get there? Well they have to figure it out.
The movie begins with Jay (Jay Baruchel) visiting Seth (Seth Rogen) in California. They have been a little “estranged” because Seth lives in L.A. Well they get high (while listening to the Backstreet Boys and then decide to go to a party at James Franco’s house. Jay doesn’t want to be there, clearly and he sees now more than ever that their friendship is different. We move through a big earthquake which brings “the end”. And a few people get saved by a beams of blue light. Now they have to either survive or die. Craig Robinson, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Johan Hill, James Franco, and Danny McBride are all stuck inside James Franco’s bunker looking house while the world around them ends.
The coolest thing about this movie (I saw it twice mind you) is that all of characters play themselves. The cameos by other celebrities is amazing. Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, and Channing Tatum to name a few. All of which have minor small parts a few lines but they are there.
Below are some of my favorite quotes from the movie.
1. Craig: “Take your panties off.”
2. Johan: “This is no dream. This is really happening.”
3. Danny: “Hermione just stole all of our shit. And Jay suggested that we rape her. I think the only reason he did that is because he knows he’s about two minutes away from becoming the house bitch himself.”
4. Danny: “I call him Channing Taint-YUM!”
5. Johan: “Dear God, it’s me, Jonah Hill… from Moneyball.”
6. Johan: “Something totally unchill happened last night.”
7. Emma: “Give me everything you have to drink.”
Seth: “There’s six of us, you can’t rob us.”
Emma after swinging ax and breaking things: “I’m not fucking around.”
My favorite cameo by far in this movie is Channing Tatum but the very end of the movie the Backstreet Boys have all made it to even and sing too. That one is pretty close but I was laughing and loving the Channing Tatum moment. And because we all were singing it at the end, here you GO!
My rating for this movie is 9 out of 10. It’s a great laugh out loud movie and while it’s not for everyone, it’ll keep you laughing through it. I enjoyed it so much I saw it twice, two days in a row. A few of us were the same but we did add more. It was a lot of fun and yes, you will leave the theater singing to the Backstreet Boys.
