This is gonna cause trouble

Now this isn’t the first movie to be released about the events of 9/11. But I think when you look at it as a whole, where it takes you more inside of the towers and possibly what some people went through, it seems a bit too soon. However, most trailers are a good representation of what the movie will be like. I’m hoping it’s done right, but I could see it not being either.

Either way, here is Charlie Sheen and Whoopi Goldberg in the new movie 9/11:

Wonder Woman

DC finally got it right. It only took a handful of movies before this but I finally think that DC could be a great as the Marvel movies. Yes I’m a bigger fan of Marvel then DC but that doesn’t mean DC doesn’t have some of my favorite heroes, Wonder Woman being one of them.

Wonder Woman starts off in present day in Paris, she receives an old photo from her past from Bruce Wayne and it makes her remember her past. That’s how we get the movie and it’s the only tie-in to the Justice League film. There is no bonus scene in the credits, which is surprising given that pretty much become a staple for Superhero movies.

We jump back in time to when World War 1 was raging throughout Europe. Many were starting to wonder if the war could even be won. Captain Steve Trevor crashes near the island of Themyscira, where Diana (Wonder Woman) is living with the other warriors, completely outside of the rest of the world. She saves Steve but her Aunt ends up getting killed with the Germans follow Steve onto the island. Steve is able to convince Diana that the war could use her help, but Diana is only going because she believes the God Ares has returned and it’s her destiny to kill him.

“I used to want to save the world, this beautiful place. But the closer you get, the more you see the great darkness simmering within. I learnt this the hard way, a long, long time ago. ” – Diana Prince

Steve takes Diana to London where they set up a plan to get into the heart of the battle in hopes of stopping Spanish chief chemist Isabel Maru, who is attempting to engineer a deadlier form of mustard gas under the orders of General Erich Ludenorff from a weapon facility. Diana believes that General Ludenorff is the God Ares in human form.

They’re able to save a town and a lot of people before finally facing General Ludenorff but when Diana kills him, the war is still continuing, proving that she was wrong and he was not the God Ares. The God Ares is actually Sir Patrick Morgan, a man who was supporting peace and was supposed to be helping them in their quest. Diana goes a little crazy and Steve ends up sacrificing himself in order to destroy the gas that Isabell Maru created. Diana kills Ares and saves her other three friends but it forced to live with the loss of Steve. We jump back to present day where Diana replies to Bruce, thanking him for the picture and bringing Steve back.

Overall, the story is well written. It creates a story-line that is believable and funny. The humor was delivered and understood at each point in the movie. The love story between Steve and Diana could’ve been done a bit better, sometimes it seemed like it was rushed and that they never really did get to know each other. However, what Diana stands for it clear and that she will spend her immortal life doing just that. I give this movie 8 out of 10 stars. I really wished they had done a bonus scene for the Justice League, which is the next film to be released. And there were a few moments that were dragging and made me want to fast forward. Wonder Woman did bring a strong female warrior to the team and I hope that continues in the Justice League movie and that they keep a good thing going.

“It’s about what you believe. And I believe in love. Only love will truly save the world.” – Diana Prince

The Mummy should stay buried

Hollywood you have to stop with the reboots. They’re not working for you. You’re taking classic movies and ruining them in order to tell the story again. Only you’re not telling the story, you’re changing it completely.

The same can be said for Tom Cruise’s The Mummy. I’m not exactly sure what happened. The movie has quite an interesting plot to begin with and it can actually be a great movie. And then they decide to fly out into the middle of the desert and blow up the entire story.

Tom’s character is similar to Brendan Frasier’s character, but lacks the charm and humor. The Mummy is also not set in Egypt, it’s set in Iraq. They find the tomb where the mummy of Princess Ahmanet has been hidden from the world. She was sent to death after using the dark arts in order to kill her family. She wants to bring the God of Death to life on Earth. She gets stopped and was sentenced to death before she could bring giver her lover to the God of Death.

“She will not stop until she has remade our world into her own.” – Dr. Henry Jekyll

When she is unlocked, by Tom’s character, she believes him to be her “chosen one” and she’ll give him to the God of Death. It’s pretty straight forward. Except they have to find the knife which was hidden in England and stone. Without the two together, the ceremony can’t be finished and Ahmanet will not be able to hold up her end of the deal. The part where they destroy their story is when Russell Crowe’s is Henry Jekyll and apparently has to take a drug in order to control his “dark side”. Yeah this is the moment where this movie went downhill. There is no point to this entire side in the plot and they only tie in they give it is that he’ll kill Tom’s character because it’s the only way to break the curse that she put on him.

I can’t even begin to get into what happens next. The last 45 minutes of the movie were basic fluff and not going anywhere in the store. The mummys that Ahmanet uses her magic to make, are CGIed so bad that it’s sad to see. In the Brendan Frasier films, they at least looked real and the storyline was a bit more believable. Yes I say that knowing that someone out there is going to say “they’re bringing dead people back, it’s fake”. I realize it’s sci-fi. I realize that the whole story is impossible. My one thing with movies, no matter the genre, is that it needs to be believable. If you take it too far, you lose me and most of your audience.

The Mummy reboot is a mess. The storyline starts off great but is quickly destroyed. The story of the importance of items and people are not fully explained. It tries hard to have comedy but it doesn’t come close to it. Ahmanet is also a let down. You don’t get to see her power all that much, it’s sad really. I give it 3 out of 10 stars. I only give it 3 because it started out with a good plot but as I said, went downhill.

Harlots. Whore. Prostitutes. Pick whatever adjective you want, in the end it’s still the same, women selling themselves for money. Harlots isn’t just about sex, although you will find that in this series. It’s about women doing what they have to survive and the struggles they face.

Harlots is a set in London 1793 where one in five women are using sex to make a living. As the time period, there isn’t a lot of opportunity for women to advance themselves. You either marry well, work as a maid or a prostitute. The two biggest brothels in London are run my Margaret Wells and Lydia Quigley. Margaret used to work for Lydia before getting her freedom and buying her own house to have her business. The prostitutes have gain popularity due to a Harris’s List of Covent Garden Ladies, where the Harlots are living. They women discuss their personal reviews in the premiere. However, new laws have been put in place to shut down brothels and to raid houses suspected of being them.

“Sweet Emily, why don’t you just cluck off?” — Kitty Carter

The show focuses on Margaret Wells, her two daughters and the women who work for her. She has a rivalry with Lydia Quigley and Lydia would like nothing more then to destroy Margaret for good. Margaret has already sold her oldest daughter, Charlotte, off to a “protector” and is working on getting her youngest, Lucy introduced into the world of Harlots and find her a protector as well. Margaret is able to move from the lower end of London to a better class of London after selling Lucy’s virginity and gets focuses on growing her business that she starts to neglect her family. Charlotte is unhappy with her protector Sir George Howard and Sir George wants to control CharSirlotte at any cost.

Episode 1

Meanwhile Lydia is plotting to destroy Margaret. She has set up a spy across the street from her new house, two women who are holy religious and Lydia is able to blackmail them both in order to keep them working for her. What Lydia doesn’t know is that soon these two women will turn on her and while there are several twists and turns, bringing in the social problems happening in the new United States, with slaves and how ownership of them is determined. There are also ties into how the constables in London were supposed to be shutting down brothels but many of them are regular visitors to the brothels so they turn a blind eye, to say it lightly.

The first season or series, given that it’s a British TV show, only has 8 episodes to get you drawn in. I was hooked after the first one. I was never sure where the plot or story of these women was going to head. Just when I thought I had Margaret or Lydia figured out, they would do something much worse that it would just change my perception of them.  And while there are moments where you really just want to tell these women they’re being idiots, they seem to have to learn the hard way. I give it 9 out of 10 stars. The last episode is especially one that is hard to watch because what happens isn’t how you will want it to go but you will understand at the end. It sets itself up nicely for a second season, which Hulu hasn’t confirmed or denied them of that yet so I’m hoping it gets picked up. Harlots entire first season is now streaming on Hulu.

Adventure Bust

Last week was adventure week for Pokemon Go. This means there was an increase in Rock Pokemon which was also supposed to mean some rare pokemon for people to find. Unfortunately this entire week was a bust except for the “buddy candy” system. Many people did not find the variety of Pokemon we were told were going to be available. Myself only saw the same 3 pokemon throughout the entire week. I had Geodudes, Rhynhorns and Slugmas. That was the only three that I saw mainly. I did see an Onix once but that was something I figured the system game me, not the week.

I myself went onto the Pokemon Go Facebook page to see what was going on. And it seemed to be the same thing for everyone. These events have become more of a let down then actually fun for many people. The Water event and the Grass Pokemon event were probably the best ones for me compared to anything else.

These events are only happening because Pokemon is trying to get it’s players back. Many of my friends who played religiously from the start have stopped because the game has become a let down. Pokemon are not as available as they used to me the same pokemon continue to appear, no matter where you’re playing at. I’m still trying to grow my Pokedex and evolve pokemon so right now it’s not a huge bother to me, plus I’m out for the exercise too.

I just wish that if you’re going to advertise the special things available then they should be there for the players, not just a select few in the right locations.

Beautiful Weather and I’m Down

Nothing sucks more then when it’s beautiful weather outside and you’re sick. That’s me right now. I’ve someone caught Strep. Yes I know it’s highly contagious. I’ve also had it before so I knew what I had before I went into the Doctor’s. Which also sucks because I’m still in my 90 days at work so I don’t have insurance. I can’t wait to see that bill.

I’m currently past my 24 hour stage on meds so I’m no longer contagious to others. I however, can’t return to work until tomorrow. I’m okay with that too. I’ve gotten my energy back but I’m wondering how long before I crash. I’m hoping my work wont punish me for this either, I could totally see them firing me over this. I did have a doctor’s note but some places that doesn’t mean anything.

I also haven’t been to the movies in a while. I’ve got a list going of things I want to see but haven’t had the time to really go and see them. Plus, I’m not afraid to see a movie by myself but doing it all the time gets old really quick.

I’m also learning the joys of taking care of a turtle. I’ve had a little bit of a rough time finding the right filter for his tank. I had to do a bit of research and finally got the right one, cost me a bit more then the first one but I’m on 2 weeks in and haven’t had to change the water yet. Plus it doesn’t smell near as much either. I wish I could do that for my Betta fish but their tank is too small for a filter, plus I don’t have a lot of room for 2 large tanks.

I’ve been busy. I’ve had quite a few interviews lately but once again am still not getting hired. This is crazy to me when I used to be told I was under qualified and now I’m being told I’m over qualified. I truly can not catch a break.

Its really starting to get to me too. I’m getting frustrated and while most would give up, I’m not. I’m not a fan of the job I have now. Yes it pays well but otherwise I spend most my time being bored. I’m not someone who enjoys that. When I’m at work, I like to keep busy. I’m not getting that here, I’m way over qualified. I moved from one job that didn’t use my skills to another.

I need some good news. I’ve been busy with family things too. I get very little free time lately. This is probably also part of the problem. I’m disappointed with myself right now. I feel like I’m not good enough too. Needless to say 2017 has been a very rough year for me. I need to catch a break.

I get that life gets like this but sometimes you just need a step in the right direction. That’s what I’m looking for right now. So while I haven’t been able to do reviews for movies. I’ve been watching some HULU series that I want to get some reviews up for. I’m hoping to have those done and up by next week. Hopefully it works out.

So don’t give up on me. I’m still here. I’m just busy with everything but what I want to be doing. Here’s to hoping something goes my way soon.
