Alright first I want to say I’m sorry for the delay on this. I meant to have it out sooner but with the end of one of my summer class my focus went there. So let me get this review out there because we do need to talk about that season 3 finale of Orphan Black.
So season 3 was definitely one to remember for Orphan Black. Both Sarah and Helena were captured by the Castor clones and had to find a way out. Also we lost Paul in the process of getting Sarah free. I’m going to miss Dylan Bruce on this show. I mean seriously you all watched season 1, the man is fine. Anyway I’m getting away from what I meant to be on topic about. We also had to deal with Kiri being gone, for her safety of course, and the looming threat of Cosima possibly dying from the Leta disease. It was a stressful season to say the least!
The most important thing we need to talk about is that we finally found the original. I have to say I was hoping for someone a little more cooler to be picked but it does make sense that the original for both Castor and Leta is tied together in one body. Also that the original has been tied to Sarah from the beginning. For those of you who missed it, the original is Mrs. S mother, who absorbed her twin brother in the womb and has a unique gene code. Honestly all of the issues with Castor and Leta make sense because they would in theory be trying to define the genes for one each when they have always been tied together. However, the lady is just horrible and I just want to slap her every time she comes on screen, even when Cosima was being nice to her.
So not only did we get to play Dr. Cody which I hope the woman is dead otherwise I want to do it, but we also got to figure out how much people really don’t know about “Top Side” at DYAD. Needless to say, no one knows anything about “Top Side” except those in it, even then there are secrets. There were some betrayals this season, Grace just needs to go, let her get sick by Mark and have them both die together if they’re that desperate to be together for however long Mark has to live. Also damn Felix was a bad-ass this episode, I really like this side of him.
Anyway the whole point of this damn finale was to tie it back to season 1 and we did that by bring the Ne-Illusionists (unsure if this is how you spell it) back into the fold. Turns out there in charge of everything and that is also where Rachel is being held now, and she’s still got one eye. I’ve come to the conclusion that no one really dies on this show, because we say that Rachel’s Dad was dead but he was actually alive. Then we knew her Mom was dead but nope at the very end of the episode, with Charolette, Rachel sees that her mother is alive. I mean at this point I’m waiting on Paul to waltz right in without a scratch (this will not happen because Dylan Bruce is now on NBC’s Heroes). So there is that to deal with.
Delephine also confronts her demons and then is killed for it. There are several speculations as to who did the deed. Many believe it was Shay, Cosima’s new girlfriend. I’m not really buying this one because it’s an obvious choice, I hope it is someone else. Also we had the Castor clones, besides Mark be killed. As far as we know anyway, I mean the damn Leta clones keep popping up. Go Helena for killing Rudy the correct way too. Plus her being reunited with Jesse was just too sweet.
Despite all of this we don’t actually see a Ne-Illusionist until the very end of the episode. We talk about them but we really don’t dive into it. I’m finding some issues with them being this powerful because it really is a cult following at this point. We also know that Dr. Leeky was really the starter of this and he was killed, so who is still taking charge of all of this? And where is Charolette’s guardian? That woman knew how to handler herself so how did Rachel’s Mom get a hold of her? So many questions….
Lets also talk about this one fact that brings me to my alien speculation. When Delephine kills the Ne-Illusionist in DYAD, he has this worm thing crawl out of his mouth. Okay where the hell did that come from? And what does it freaking do? Does it control people, if so that some freaking crazy crap and I’m not buying it for this show. Second point, before he died he said there were more coming, that you couldn’t basically kill off all of the Ne-Illusionists. At this point I’m wondering if I’ve crossed into a Captain America storyline with the damn Hyrda people. Can we get back to being original please?
One of the things I really enjoy about this show is the ability to see how it’s real. Yes clones are not yet (I say yet because some day this will happen) and I like to be able to understand how and see why they have the clones. But also, with this Ne-Illusionist crap thrown into the mix and basically making it seem alien you are going to lose me. Keep it with the believable science and away from the way out in left field sci-fi crap. I’m watching this show because I can see what is going on, the clones and crap, actually being a thing. You throw aliens into the mix and you are definitely losing that. Keep it complicated but believable please.
Overall the episode is good but it definitely isn’t great with the worm crawling out, Rachel’s Mom somehow being alive and throwing in the Ne-Illusionists without having any reference to them all season except this episode. I’m all for calling back to previous seasons, but you have to build to it and I just didn’t see it develop the way it needed too. Thank you for bringing Helena and Jesse together again and please let them have some kind of relationship, Helena has earned it. I give the episode 7 out of 10 stars. I take 3 stars off for the alien storyline you’re developing.
